concept, if all goes according to plan...

So, today took me away from the pencil and to the color.  I found an image online that was of heart cell tissue.  Using that as inspiration, I gathered up my materials and decided to paint en plen air (in the outdoors).  Well, let's just say that if the wind is blowing, and you decide to step away for a quick bite, take it from me, you will want to secure your painting.  As I returned, I found it on the sidewalk with grass and dirt blowing and sticking to it.  Needless to say, I decided to move the studio back inside to start again.  It is a learning process, right?

Below is a photo of the painting in its current state. I may work back into it some after it dries to bring out some more yellows, though, with my concept, I am not sure if it needs it.  Above is the (photoshop) layered image.  I hope to be able to control some lighting with my pieces to have it be translucent, and the cell image showing through the drawing, however, from viewing it from the side of the cell, there is no evidence of the drawing, combining the realism and emotion with the abstract.

The two images will them be connected with some loose stitches, again, tying together image.

weak in the knees

In progressing with my images, I thought I would change up the knee a bit.  Instead of it just being one image layered in front of a painted background (yet to be seen), I thought I would place two longer images side by side.  Therefore, I decided to add another anatomical drawing of the knee, this time from a different view.

The source of insecurities...

...is all in your head.  I was talking with my husband about my thesis work the other day.  He knows that I am very insecure about drawing, although it isn't anything I remember ever admitting.  When he asked me how I was going to include that information into my body of work, it only seemed logical that it is all in the brain.  Insecurities about ourselves, doubting our relationships, overthinking, overcomplicating, analyzing, interpreting.  Stop!  We are in charge of our thoughts, our feelings, our emotions.  We have the abilities to do anything, we are wondrous beings.

Butterflies

Call it nerves, call it love, call it what you will.  It is a feeling that creates such a natural high, a drug I am addicted to.  I love it when the butterflies flutter.

Breathing life into romance

Every breath you take, waiting on baited breath, watching each breath fall off of your lips, take my breath away... The lungs, breathing life into romance.

6.20.2011

I am not sure about his drawing.  It looks like something more from the sea than from the body.  I see technical errors in it, and it does not speak any emotion.  Though I am not giving up on using the eye as a point of reference, I don't think this one makes the cut.  Comments, opinions, and suggestions are welcome.

Lend an ear...

I'm always here to listen.

Hanging on every word you say....The emotional connection with the physical mouth is so strong.  So much emotion is shown through our expressions and the words we say....waiting to hear his voice or the breath fall off of his lips.

Weak in the Knees

I get so weak in the knees when  I think of our love and what can be.

Today I printed my drawing 34"x45" on crepe de chine.  I chose this fabric for it's delicate nature as well as it's kinetic, "living" ability.  As the air around it moves, so does the fabric, bringing a sense of life to the drawing.  The soft, delicate, translucent fabric relates to the emotional content of the piece.

Journal entry dated October 19, 1999

The human heart is made up of muscular tissue, nerves, veins.  It is an organ that keeps our bodies alive, as long as we keep it healthy.  We keep our hearts healthy through exercise, and what we ingest.  Yet, our hearts are fragile, regardless of how we protect it.  We build these walls to keep out the bad and hope to hold in the good.  Emotionally speaking, our hearts can break easily.  Our human hearts, the organ, rests on a body, responds to our physical environment.  Our emotional hearts break with each act of carelessness.

The human heart is a vital organ.  It's muscular strength is incredible, yet it is so very fragile...
